Cheesy Homemade Big Mac Pinwheel

I hate long intros, and I bet you do also, so just like this recipe let’s make it quick.

Why This Works:

Flavor Layers:
The savory, seasoned beef and onions mimic the Big Mac patty, while the tangy special sauce brings the signature flavor. Cheddar cheese adds richness, enhancing the overall taste.

Texture Contrast:
The flaky crescent dough provides a buttery, tender contrast to the juicy beef and gooey cheese, making each bite satisfying.

Approachability:
The pinwheel format is easy to prepare and eat. It’s perfect for parties, snacks, or quick dinners.

Customization:
The recipe allows for easy adjustments, like adding sesame seeds for authenticity or topping with lettuce and pickles for freshness.

Efficiency:
Using pre-made crescent dough cuts down prep time, while the filling is simple to cook and assemble, making it accessible for home cooks.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 can 8 oz refrigerated crescent roll dough

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

Optional Toppings:

  • Shredded lettuce
  • Pickle slices
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, vinegar, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Refrigerate until needed.

Cook the Beef:

  • In a skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  • Add diced onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until beef is browned and onions are softened. Drain excess grease and let cool.

Roll Out the Dough:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a floured surface, pressing the seams together to form a rectangle.

Assemble the Pinwheels:

  • Spread half the prepared sauce over the dough.
  • Evenly distribute the cooked beef mixture over the sauce.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.

Roll and Slice:

  • Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
  • Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 1-inch thick rounds.

Bake:

  • Place the pinwheels on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between them.

Optional: Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for a Big Mac effect.

  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve:

  • Drizzle with remaining sauce or serve it on the side for dipping.
  • Garnish with shredded lettuce and pickle slices, if desired.
